Message from the founder
In 2030, 70% of the world’s population will live in urban areas. We already see the effects of highly densely populated places: more congestion, more pollution, higher cost of transportation. These developments are dramatically impacting our daily lives: In Switzerland, traffic jams are causing economic damage of three billion Francs per annum. Traffic jams on Swiss roads cause delays of 200,000 hours every day 1). Also, cost of mobility is increasing sharply: the cost of a 2nd class GA has increased by 79.5% since 1990 (inflation adjusted by 32.7%) while fuel prices (lead free 95) have increased by 60% (inflation adjusted by 20%) in the same time period (let’s not forget, in June 2022, fuel prices of 95 unleaded hit CHF 2.31/litre due to external shocks which can always happen again). On top of that, parking fees have increased significantly and are reaching up to CHF 50.- per day in inner cities. This whole development is unpleasant for customers, the society and the environment.
Therefore, our mission at BlueRoad is to improve the roads. We want to make them a better place by bringing vehicles to the road that
- Are fun to drive/ride
- Save time and money
- Are environmentally friendly
E-Bikes are ticking a lot of boxes in this respect. That’s why we centre our efforts around this form of mobility. The average driven distance per day in Switzerland lies at only 30 kilometres. Most people’s commute in urban areas is even shorter. There are so many advantages about using e-bikes, that’s why the e-bike market hast grown between 2005 and 2022 by a staggering 12’200%. Almost every second bicycle sold in Switzerland in 2022 was an e-bike. It brings undeniable benefits in the following areas:
- Very flexible and time saving (no traffic jams, no search for parking)
- Very cost effective (a full charge that takes you 80-100 kilometres of range will cost you 15 Francs
- Big health benefits (daily exercise, more time spent in open air)
- And it’s just so much fun to ride 😊

Nicolai is the a bike manufacturer of the absolute highest level of expertise. All e-bikes are designed,developed and hand-welded at the Nicolai headquarters in Mehle, Germany. The level of attention to detail and perfectionism is unparalleld. The result is a piece of art that gives the owner enojoyment of a lifetime.
